Zimbabwean actress, Sibongile Mlambo, has been picked to be the lead actress in Universal Pictures third sequel of “Honey.”
Sibongile confirmed this through her Facebook page, “I can finally let the cat out the bag and share that I’m back in Cape Town shooting Honey 3, an absolute dream come true! Those who know me well, know I’m still trying to wrap my head around this and not geek out! This is the second film I’ve booked in Los Angeles this year, I am extremely grateful! To everyone who let me come to their dance classes when I looked like a fool and just couldn’t get it and those who took their chances on me, I thank you!”
Honey is a dance film that initially starred Jessica Alba as the lead actress. The plot of Honey is generally the same old dance story: a choreographer who desperately wants to make it, and goes through thick and thin to dance.
Honey director, Bille Woodruff, was a music video producer who worked with the likes of R. Kelly, Usher Raymond and Nas, to mention a few.
The third attempt at Honey, however, takes a twist, and at least geographically puts Bille out of his comfort zone. Honey 3 will be set in Cape Town, where Mlambo plays Ishani Magona. According to an exclusive given to thewrap.com, Sibongile plays a very determined, tough Cape Town girl “who never backs down from a fight or a dance battle.” Mlambo’s dance classes pay off as she shows off her kwaito moves and fuses them with other dance styles.
It is not Mlambo’s first time in front of the camera. She acted in Kini and Adams (1997) and Ladygrey (2015). She also starred in Black Sails, a two time Primetime Emmy Award winning series.
